‘Parklife’ is the third studio album by Britpop/alternative band ‘Blur’. Their genre is of the 90’s new-wave in bringing regional accents and style in the form of vocals and instrumental construction. In Blur’s case, their Essex origins were the main influence, and this can be seen from the image shown on the album cover, due to dog racing being a very traditional Essex past-time. As well as this, the dog racing image represents the bands interests, as all four members enjoy the sport, especially front man Damon Albarn who regularly attends races. The image itself shows a very competitive aspect, with the facial expressions of the dogs being that of determination and ferocity, perhaps reflecting the bands reaction to chart success, and giving slight insight into the creation of the famous ‘Battle of Britpop’ between themselves and Oasis. The term ‘Parklife’ derives from the bands very successful single of the same name, in which the lyrical content consist of the story of a homeless man situated in Hyde Park, a very British idea which discusses everyday modern issues, something which can be seen in most Blur songs. The image is also photographic showing the reality side connected to their songs, and is simplistic. The bands logo is also very simplistic, and has been used on all produce of the band, not alternating like modern bands logo’s. This would allow easy access to fans and others who wish to buy music as it has become easily recognisable.Labels: CD Cover Analysis
