‘Invincible’ is Muse’s 4th single from the album ‘Black Holes and Revelations’, an album which depicts Muse alternative/electronic nature. The genre of Muse’s music ranges throughout each song, changing from progressive rock to classical, to electronic, and such fusion has led the band to create a whole sense of music entirely original to themselves, leading to many awards. The album cover of ‘Invincible’ somewhat shows the alternativeness of the band, with the design showing a spectacle of the human figure with an illusionary sense. The colours presented stimulate the idea of fusion, slight awkwardness and beauty, which is often symbolised in their music. The songs title speaks for itself, representing the idea of a confident and strength, reflected on throughout the lyrical content. ‘Invincible’ also suggest something extraordinary, something unified through use of lyrics, ‘no one like you in the universe’, music video and vivid colour and design on the cover. The imagery on the artwork shows two lovers, seemingly about to embrace, something which relates heavily to the lyrics and the soft, romantic tone of the guitar progression. I think the otherworldly abstract design appeals in particular to the fan base of muse in particular, as it is very representative of their musical traditions, and I believe that this artwork could appeal to a larger audience of those interested in progressive rock, or alternative/ electronic. Lastly, with the majority of Muse’s fanbase being that of students, the vivid colours appeal to their creative nature and youth, as well as having a sophisticated background to illustrate the seriousness of the music keeping it fairly mature and intelligent in musical terms, for example with the experimentation of instruments that are not commonly used, increasing interest.
